After several years of over the road service, he purchased his first truck where it all began. He drove this truck until he was diagnosed as a diabetic, at which point he decided it best for his health to come off of the road. So, he hired a driver for this truck, and took a job in a shop learning how to service and maintain trucks.
In February of 2005 Bowerman Trucking, Inc. was granted its own operating authority. Jimmy spent many countless days and nights at the office and in the shop doing whatever it took to make sure his new baby would stand, and eventually compete in this “cut-throat” industry. At which point Jimmy was 58 years old and he realized that he would not be able to solely run his company forever. He decided that by age 70, he would be fully retired, but with all of the blood, sweat, and tears that he had poured into his company he could not just sell it off. He needed to ensure its survival long after his retirement. So, he brought onboard his two only grandsons, Matt and Jacob Bowerman, to train and mold into the future owners of Bowerman Trucking, Inc.
Jimmy spent the next several years instilling his work ethic into Matt and Jacob, and giving them the training they would need to be able to handle the reigns of Bowerman Trucking, Inc. Since Matt and Jacob joined this journey with their grandfather, the company has continued to experience growth. At the end of 2013, we began a quest to locate a permanent location for our company headquarters. As of 12/26/2013 we had purchased and begun operations from our 9 acre facility in Searcy, AR. The property currently has over 8,000 sqft of office space, over 40,000 sqft of shop / warehouse space between two buildings for our equipment maintenance and repairs, and a 3,200 sqft driver’s lounge. The entire property is surrounded in secure fencing, covered by surveillance, equipped with access controls and protected by guards. We currently operate about 65 trucks and 135 trailers.
Jimmy had planned to be retired by the year 2016, at which point the ownership and full operations of the company would be seamlessly transitioned to the very capable hands of Matt and Jacob Bowerman. Jimmy’s goal was to have both men prepared to the point that when he retired, no employee or customer would even realize he was gone. We are proud to say that, as of April 28th, 2015, Jimmy was able to realize his dream and fully retired. Jimmy, Matt, and Jacob all three became equal partners in the business and Matt and Jacob have seamlessly taken the reigns of the business. Matt and Jacob’s goal is to continue to maintain and grow Bowerman Trucking, Inc. into a respected member of this nation’s transportation industry, while holding fast to the family values that are the heart of Bowerman Trucking, Inc.
